Mental Health For Schools (MHFS)

An implementation programme to make schools a happy space, and build life skills among students and educators through school events, classroom workshops and individual counselling

Overview

Mental Health for Schools (MHFS) is an implementation programme, supported by KPMG Global Services, that aims to make schools emotionally supportive environments where students and educators are equipped to understand, manage, and support their well-being. With a strong emphasis on prevention and early intervention, the programme equips students (aged 11–18) and educators with practical knowledge, coping skills, and clear pathways for seeking support.

Rationale

India is home to the world’s largest adolescent population, yet access to mental health support remains severely limited, with most young people receiving no care despite the early onset of concerns. Adolescence is a critical period of rapid cognitive, emoional, and social development during which they face increasing academic, social, and emotional pressures. Without appropriate support, these stressors can negatively affect well-being and long term development. National and school-based data consistently highlight high levels of distress among students, particularly in low-income settings where additional stressors and limited resources further restrict access to support. Schools provide an accessible platform to promote awareness, prevention and early support for mental health concerns.
