Dr. Pattie Gonsalves

Dr Pattie Gonsalves is a global mental health researcher whose work bridges research, youth engagement, and innovation. As project director at Sangath, Pattie leads large, multi-partner studies on adolescent and youth mental health in schools, universities, and community settings. Pattie specialises in co-designing mental health interventions with young people and embedding lived experience expertise across all stages of research, from design and implementation to evaluation and public engagement. Her work focuses on participatory methods, common mental disorders, brief and digital interventions, and youth leadership. She founded It’s Ok To Talk at Sangath in 2016, one of India’s first national public engagement campaigns on youth mental health, recognised by Facebook in 2019 as one of the world’s top 10 youth mental health initiatives.
Pattie holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Sussex and an MSc in Global Health Science from the University of Oxford. She brings over 15 years of experience advancing youth-centred research, co-design processes, and the implementation of mental health studies across educational and community settings in India.
