Objective
  • Building linkages between the state and the centre in disability work
  • Creating awareness about National Trust activities and schemes in the state
  • Supporting and carrying out the activities of the National Trust in the state
  • Sensitising the general public to persons with disabilities
  • Liaising with the state government
  • Advocating for persons with disabilities.
  • Documenting resources/activities in the state for persons with disabilities
  • Representing issues related to disabilities at the national level.
  • Monitoring the functioning of the State Level Coordination Committee and the Local Level Committees formed by the National Trust.

Progress
Sangath was awarded the status of the State Nodal Agency Centre (SNAC) between 2005 to 2016 by the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy and Multiple Disabilities. Through this partnership, Sangath was recognised as the Nodal centre of the National Trust in the state of Goa. This enabled Sangath to collaborate with organisations that work in the disability sector and support their activities.
Badhte Kadam Campaign
Badthe Kadam, a nationwide disability awareness campaign is being commemorated by the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities from November 18 – December 02, 2013. In Goa, the campaign will be coordinated by Sangath, the State Nodal Agency Centre under the National Trust.
The event is held across the country to generate awareness and sensitise the community about the rights of persons with disabilities as enshrined in our Constitution and as elaborated in the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The main theme is ‘Issues of Violence & Sexual Harassment of People with Disabilities’.
