Project name Strengthening Evidence base on scHool-based intErventions for pRomoting adolescent health
Objectives
  • Phase 1: To evaluate the SEHER intervention and compare the intervention’s delivery by a new, low-cost human resource (a lay counsellor called the SEHER Mitra) and an existing human resource (a teacher) with the government-run Adolescence Education Programme (AEP).
  • Phase 2: To test the sustained effects of embedding the SEHER intervention and to test a dose-response effect of the intervention.

Study design Three-arm cluster-randomised trial comparing clusters (schools) in: (i) Teacher-as SEHER Mitra (TSM) arm and ii) SEHER Mitra (SM) arm versus the control arm (Adolescence Education Programme)
Sample description Grade 9 students (aged 13–14) of government-run secondary and higher secondary schools in the academic year 2015-16 and 2016-17

Randomisation Schools were randomly assigned in a 1:1:1 ratio to three study groups.
