Goa COVID Relief Project

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The project aims to provide relief to the public (marginalized and vulnerable populations) affected by the pandemic and assist the government agencies in their relief efforts. This project has been made possible by a generous donation by Cryptorelief and is being conducted simultaneously in 2 districts of North & South Goa.

It was conceived as part of Cryptorelief’s District Pandemic Response with the intention of helping the district health authorities to mount a preventative response during the 3rd wave of the pandemic. As the 3rd wave declined rapidly, we have optimised our activities to focus on long term, need-based interventions.

PROJECT GOAL

  • To support the transition of special students (intellectually impaired, those who are on the ASD spectrum, slow learners and those with a learning disability) as they move to physical classrooms.
  • To organise interactive workshops for adolescents in mainstream schools as they re-integrate back to school in physical mode. Workshops will be focused on resilience and post-pandemic issues such as screen addiction and behavioural disturbances.
  • To develop an online mental health service platform wherein individuals can register and book mental health consultations (from Psychiatrists) or online counselling sessions (with qualified psychologists/trained counsellors).
  • To develop and deliver a trauma informed workshop at workplaces focused on improved coping and community resilience.
  • To increase awareness about completing the vaccination – by way of holding medical camps with local stakeholders wherein we will increase awareness about vaccination and mental health.

KEY IMPACT

Besides helping to improve the vaccination coverage and awareness about the pandemic, this project addresses the long term mental health cost (impact) of the pandemic on the survivors as well as the service providers.

The mental health effect of the pandemic has been across the age spectrum – development impact on children, economic hardships on adults, increase in drug & alcohol use, aggravating of domestic violence, anxiety and fear among the vulnerable such as the elderly etc. Our project activities aim to help reduce these sequelae.
